Backyard Birds on the New South Wales South Coast

There are loads of birds in the garden and trees in Bendalong, a small village on the coast just north of Ulladulla, New South Wales. At least half a dozen Satin Bowerbirds are coming and going. A family with young males thinking about building bowers, with pieces of blue plastic gathering in the flower bed. The parrots are prolific. Crimson Rosellas, King Parrots, Galahs, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos and of course many Rainbow Lorikeets. Little Wattlebirds dominate the nectar bearing trees. A pair of Eastern Spinebills are constantly in the garden, with the thunderclap of their wings when moving after being disturbed. A smattering of Pied Currawongs, Masked Lapwings, Lewin’s Honeyeaters, Olive-backed Orioles and Magpies make up the numbers. Just down the road majestic White-bellied Sea-Eagles cruise by.
